Edward Stein
Edward started his career from Cornwall working with the world’s hardest stone Granite; that he mastered at a young age making stone troughs. This forged an instinct for stone but also a need for a finer material.
And so a search for marble lead him to Carrara. The Italian town famed for its white marble. Here he trained as an apprentice to the great Robert Gove a master of marble, with forty years experience.
Ed spent time in the quarries of Carrara learning about the nature of his material and its response to the hammer and point. All of the marble was retrieved from the Quarry of Michelangelo. This stone is revered for its strength, ivory white and translucent glow.
“My work is an on going question and a response to light”
